Rain-Activated Messages Advertise Bumbershoot Festival on Seattle Sidewalks

Bumbershoot - Rain Activated Advertising

The 2014 Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival is less than a month a way, and to remind local Seattleites about the event, ad agency Publicis leveraged one of the things that the city has in abundance; rain.

While Seattle doesn’t rank highest in the amount of annual rainfall, it does rank in the top 5 in the US for cloudy days.

The agency used stencils and a spray system called NeverWet to create a message that repelled water. When the sidewalk was dry the message was invisible, but when it rained the message was revealed against the wet sidewalk around it.

MINI Mexico Shocks Women With Bathroom Airbag Stunt

MINI Mexico - Makeup Crash Stunt

The stakes keep rising in the competition to attract people’s attention online. Agencies around the world continue to release videos featuring (supposedly) unsuspecting people reacting to elaborately orchestrated pranks.

In this example created by Publicis for MINI Mexico, they hope to raise awareness of the danger of distracted drivers, particularly among women who apply makeup while driving. Women who stopped to freshen their makeup, screamed in shock when an airbag exploded out of the specially rigged soap dispenser.

The clip attempts to make a tenuous connection between data like “6 out of 10 women wouldn’t dream of going to work without makeup” and “1 out of 4 believe that not wearing makeup could cost them a promotion” to make the conclusion that that is why some women apply makeup while driving. Or maybe it’s not such a far-fetched thought, as a 2009 UK study found that more than 1 in 5 women drivers admitted to having applied cosmetics while driving.

Swiss Garnier Fructis Ads Feature ‘Rocker Dude’ Beard Illusion

At first glance this recently released series of ads created by Publicis Zurich for Garnier Fructis features a trio of tough-looking rocker dudes with full healthy beards that would make the guys in ZZ Top jealous.

It may take you a second to notice that the beards are actually the flowing hair of women standing in front of the men. The ad copy reads “For any hair type”, and promotes that Garnier Fructis’ hair care products will work great for both men and women.

The eye-catching illusions were captured by Berlin-based photographers Billy & Hells.
